As the winter (hopefully) draws to a close, we here at BoardSpace are really looking forward to spring and what the new season will bring. Our team has been working feverishly on providing new innovations to the BoardSpace app; which we are very excited to share with you in the upcoming future.

In the meantime, we have been working on some new cool ideas to share with you.

Volume 2 Issue 3: February 2020

Did the groundhog see her shadow? Seems like as barometers of spring, there was some disagreement among the groundhog predictors. Perhaps it should have been brought to the table as a motion to see if it would pass.

Pat is happy to announce Chris Gray as the new co-editor of The Elevator. He recently started at BoardSpace as the marketing and sales specialist. He has been busy learning about BoardSpace, working hard on creating content for social media, and working hard on recent blog posts, and now on The Elevator.

October has gotten away, the leaves have fallen and winter has come too fast. November is about to turn into the holiday craziness of December. We have a Blog Post, a Quick Tip, and two new Podcasts. Volume 1 Issue 6: September 2019

Where has the summer gone? We missed a few of our coffee chats over the summer, but now that September is here and life has returned to normal, we are back to our regular routine. Pat even got up at 5:00 am on the day that we met last and baked her famous oatmeal walnut cookies.

Bonnie is recently back from the annual Governance Professionals of Canada conference. She has an update from the conference in this edition.

Volume 1 Issue 5: July 2019

Phew, the last 6 weeks have been crazy. Both of us have too much on our plates and the Elevator was pushed to the side, but not forgotten. We’re really happy with our first four issues, but as a result of our workloads, we needed to make some changes to The Elevator.

Pat has been writing two newsletters; the BoardSpace Buzz for BoardSpace customers and contributing to the Elevator; for subscribers. Bonnie, likewise, is contributing to the Elevator and extremely busy with her consulting practice. This has become too much so we’re announcing the merger of the BoardSpace Buzz and the Elevator. Our combined effort will be known as the Elevator Insiders. The same great content will continue along with updates from BoardSpace. We will also be adding different types of content. The first new content is from a new podcast – more details below.

Volume 1 Issue 4: May 2019

This issue brings May Day and a few showers although finally a few flowers too! May marks the start of the gardening, camping, and outdoor fun season around most of Canada, and folks at the Elevator are no exception. We are taking some time to celebrate some very important birthdays, including the 5th birthday for bothBoardSpaceandBoardspace Bill! Heike is outdoors enjoying the sunshine and wishing Bill a very Happy Birthday.

This month we’ll talk about how to start the conversation around budgets for the board, suggest a 3-step process that will magically solve the problem of surprises at the board table, and a strategy for supporting interested volunteers with a keen interest in your organization -as they move through the process from candidate to a board seat. Lastly, we’ll connect you to a job site where you can find those new roles as a non-profit volunteer board director!

Is your board office looking a bit like the yard? Messy, disorganized, and with a lot of things left hanging around that don’t really need to be there? Marie Kondo -the organizing superstar -is everywhere these days advising people to merge, purge, stash, trash and then tidy up what’s left. We propose that this month everyone ‘Marie Kondo’ their board records. Don’t let your board routines languish like the tired snow of winter…. but renew, reorganize, and rebuild for a fresh outlook on the year ahead.

Read on for tips on how to get your records in order, suggestions for ways to implement something new in your operation, a strategy for evaluating your board’s performance, and some thoughts on how to make better decisions. We’ll end this month’s newsletter with a super-tip on where to find like-minded people.Remember, our newsletter theme for 2019 continues.
